The Coat of Arms of Andorra used from 1949 to 1959 is a heraldic symbol representing the Principality of Andorra. It consists of a shield divided per pale, with the first quarter displaying four pallets (horizontal stripes) of gules (red) and or (gold). The second quarter features a cross pattee fitchy (a black cross with alternating white and red quincunxes in each quadrant) on a field of sable (black). At the center is a golden escutcheon bearing four stars of azure (blue), representing the four parishes of Andorra. The Coat of Arms was designed by the artist Carles Vila Casas, and it symbolizes the country’s historical connections, its religious significance, and its quadripartite geography.
