The Flag of Central Java, Indonesia, is a rectangular banner divided into two equal horizontal sections. The upper half features the symbol of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta, while the lower half represents the provincial government. The Sultanate emblem, known as the Girindra Kusuma Senopati, consists of a stylized version of the Garuda, the mythical bird from Hindu-Buddhist mythology, carrying a lion on its back. The lower half of the flag is divided into three equal horizontal stripes of red, white, and red. This tricolor represents the unity of the people of Central Java. The flag was officially adopted in 1950 as the symbol of Central Java Province.
