Flag of Kharkiv, Ukraine The Flag of Kharkiv is the official symbol of the city of Kharkiv, one of the largest cities in Ukraine. It consists of three horizontal bands of equal width: blue at the top and bottom, and golden yellow in the middle. In the center of the yellow band, there is a coat of arms of Kharkiv City displayed. The flag’s design was adopted on November 18, 2004, following the local government’s decision to restore historical symbols. The blue color represents the sky and the Dnieper River, while golden yellow symbolizes fields and wheat crops that were once abundant in the region. The coat of arms features a shield with three towers, a bishop’s staff with a dove on top, and a corn sheaf – alluding to the city’s historical significance as an important trading center and its status as an episcopal see. Despite being the administrative capital of Ukraine’s eastern region, Kharkiv has a distinct cultural identity that is reflected in its unique flag. The Flag of Kharkiv serves not only as a visual representation of the city but also fosters a sense of pride and unity among its residents.
