The USCG International Port Security Program, administered by the United States Coast Guard (USCG), is a comprehensive initiative aimed at safeguarding international ports and waterways from terrorist attacks, criminal activity, and other threats. Established in response to security concerns following the September 11, 2001, attacks, the program operates under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA) and aligns with international maritime security standards such as the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The program’s key components include facility and vessel security plans, random inspection and examination procedures, and credentialing for mariners and port workers. Its objective is to ensure that US ports remain secure, efficient, and resilient, safeguarding the nation’s economic and transportation interests while promoting global security and cooperation.
